The ETS Turbo kit for the KA24 powered S14 (95-98) will transform your vehicle from being just a peppy coupe to a tire burning monster. Your new car will be right at home on the street, drag strip of drift course. Our unique manifold and turbo combination virtually eliminates turbo lag, and with a power capability of over 400whp, it can provide 11 second Time slips and long 2nd and 3rd gear drifts. All aspects of this kit are designed with performance and ease of installation in mind. This kit is one of the only kits that does not require battery relocation, fan shroud removal, A/C Line splitting, or crash beam cutting. With an installation time of 5-6hrs you will be on your way to the track in no time.
At the heart of the KA Turbo kit is a fully TIG welded, Heavy Wall Stainless Steel, Equal Length Manifold. This manifold is manufactured out of the highest grade 304L stainless, and with a wall thickness of 1/8" it will never crack. To ensure the ultimate in flow and to equalize back pressure at all cylinders we use a 10deg. Merge collector to join the runners to the turbo flange. This collector makes a smooth transition of each runner into the turbo, and furthermore it harnesses the pressure wave action of each cylinder to help scavenge the others. This results in less back pressure, quick spool up, and great top end power. It is truly a case where everything gains and there is no trade off (except in expense and production time). Our manifold has been flow bench designed and dyno and track tested to ensure that nothing was left on the table.
From the manifold the exhaust travels to a Genuine Garrett t3/t4 turbo. The turbo we use goes hand in hand with our manifold, and because of the efficiency and flow of our manifold we are able to use a slightly larger turbo than normal and still retain quick spool up. Our decision upon which turbo to use is the result of many hours of study including several compressor maps, and turbine options. After we found what we felt would be the best turbo in theory, it was off to the dyno and track for real world testing to ensure our turbo selection was appropriate. The result is astonishing; we have a system that produces full spool up by 3000rpm and is capable of 500hp with the supporting fuel modifications. Our turbo is a 57trim compressor, and stage 3 turbine with a .48 A/R. This compressor section works extremely well with the 2.4L displacement of the 240sx. With the stage one kit even in the spool up stage of 3000rpm the turbo is operating in it's 71% efficiency range, then as the RPM's rise it reaches it's peak efficiency range of 76% at 5000rpm, and stays in a 73-76% efficiency range to redline (6500rpm rev limiter), all of this is at 10psi boost (280-300hp). The real excitement comes when the boost is increased to 18psi (350-400hp) at stage 2. In stage 2 the turbo will reach 73% efficiency at 3000rpm and stay in the 75-76% efficiency range until redline. After stage 2 the turbo is capable of 30psi (500hp), but will be happiest at 15-25psi (450hp).
From the turbo, the exhaust exits through a polished stainless steel 2.5" down pipe. Our down pipe is designed to for maximum clearance to both the steering shaft and the brake reservoir. We made sure that there would be no brake fluid boiling issues as is a problem with some other 240sx Kits. To control the turbo we use a genuine Tial 38mm wastegate, which is set at 8psi from the factory, and is set up to re-circulate the spent gasses. The down pipe will hook up to your stock Mid pipe, of any other exhaust systems that terminate at the stock manifold.
On the cold side of the turbo, the Air is drawn in through our High Flow filter, passes by the stock MAS, and then enters the compressor. Once it exits the compressor, it is channeled through large 2.5" Mandrel Bent piping, past the type RFL Blow off Valve, and down to the Intercooler. From there the charge air will loose over 130deg. As it passes through an ETS Offset Fin Bar and Plate core. From the intercooler the piping snakes through into the engine compartment down by the strut rod, and runs up parallel to the fan shroud and then into the Throttle Body. There is also a hose in the piping to connect to the stock Idle air control motor. It should be noted that the intercooler will bolt right to existing holes in the core support without even taking the bumper off, then there is no frame cutting, battery relocation, or radiator shroud removal for the intercooler.
To ensure proper fuel management for stage 1 , we include a Vortech FMU and a Walbro 255lph fuel pump. These will provide enough fuel to safely rum 8psi, and usually the car can run 10psi but should be checked with a wide band oxygen sensor to make sure it is not too lean. The installation of the ETS kit is one of the simplest there is. The hardest part is putting the drain bung in the oil pan. Once this is done, the whole kit will take only 5-6 hrs to install. There is no cutting of any frame members, just minor nose trimming for the Intercooler and piping, and the dipstick has to be bent, but is still fully operational.
Upon installation of your stage one kit, you will feel a substantial increase in power. Most regular street tires will go up in smoke in 1st gear and second gear yield long rubber streaks. At the stage one level your car will have between 260-300 HP at the wheel depending upon mileage and how free flowing the exhaust is. Most cars with around 100K mi and a good exhaust will have 280whp , low mileage vehicle will have 300hp, and worn out engines will have 260-280hp. At these power levels you vehicle will run 12.9-13.4 sec. 1/4mi depending upon traction and drivng skill. As long as the boost is kept at or below 10psi, the engine will last a long time. To unleash some serious power our stage 2 fuell/timing kit is the next step, this will allow up to 15psi on stock compression engines and 21 psi on engines with an upgraded head gasket and pistons. (we recommend using 8.5:1 forged pistons). With decent driving skills and proper tuning, At 17psi (350whp) the car should run 12.4-12.6 @ 110mph, and at 21psi (400whp) the car should run 11.8-12.0 at 116mph
